Health policy and health services
There are some strategic research topics for which multidisciplinary teams were formed to work in the following research areas:
Medicine of Extreme Environment
The head of the Extreme Environment Medicine Team is prof. Aidaraliev As.A. He participated in three science based research expeditions to Antarctica where he worked on human adaptation to extreme conditions in highlands. The focus of his work was on cellular-molecular mechanisms of adaptation. The results of the research were actually a foundation for method of accelerated adaptation to hypoxia, which was later incorporated in astronauts training program. This method was further developed by prof. A.S. Shanazarov who received special recognition in the field of "Aerospace Medicine".
Nowadays , multidisciplinary team represented by several areas of medicine and biology continues to work on the adaptation to the extreme environment.
Health services and health policy research
The head of this team is prof. Aidaraliev Ar.A. Health care systems of Central and East Asia countries confront dramatic and unprecedented challenge nowadays. The research team examines country differences in health policy and the effect of new approaches in the region. The main emphasis of the research has been on medical education in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
